NewChitosebecameJapan'sfirst24-hourairportin1994.Servicesbetween10PMand7AMarecurrentlylimitedtosixflightsperdayduetonoisealleviationconcerns.FouroftheseslotsarecurrentlyusedbypassengerflightstoTokyowhiletheothertwoareusedbycargoflights. NewChitosepreviouslyhadlong-haulservicetoAmsterdam(KLM,1997–2002),Cairns(Qantas,1992–1998and2004–2007)andHonolulu(JALWays,1992–2003,HawaiianAirlinessince2012).ServicetoEuroperesumedwhenFinnairlaunchedanewweeklyflighttoHelsinkifrom15thDecember2019.FinnairwastheuniquecompanytoprovidedirectandscheduledflightsbetweenSapporoandEurope.[7]InternationalservicesaremainlyfortransportingtouristsfromtherestofAsiaandforsightseeingandskiing.Theareasurroundinggates0through2,onthenorthendofthemainterminal,wasasterileareaforinternationalflightsuntiltheinternationalterminalopenedforserviceonMarch26,2010.
