ThelatestversionofIBM’sMaximoEnterpriseAssetManagement(EAM)software,anessentialindustrytoolthathelpsshipownersmaintaintheirvesselsinaccordancewithinternationalregulations,hasbeengrantedtypeapprovalbyclassificationsocietyDNVGL. ThecertificationprocessforMaximoversion7.xwasoverseenbymaritimeandoffshorespecialistITfirmSROSolutions,partoftheCohesiveCompanies. ShipownersarelegallyrequiredtoimplementaPlannedMaintenanceSystem(PMS)toensuretheirvesselsareoperatedandmaintainedinaccordancewithclassandmanufacturerrequirements.Maximofulfilsavastrangeoffunctionsincludingtherecordingofworkorders,maintenanceintervals,andhistoricalandupcomingjobsonboard,alongwithnumerousreportingfunctions. IBM’ssoftwareiswidelyusedbycompaniesoperatingintheinternationalmaritime,andoilandgassectorstomanagetheirassetsandequipment. AndrewCarrie,OperationsDirectoratSROSolutions,saidthegrantingoftypeapprovalforversion7.xprovidesreassuranceforMaximo’smaritimeandoffshoreclientsthatthesoftwarecontinuestosatisfyallrelevantclassandlegalobligations. Hesaid: “AllshipownersarerequiredtohaveaPMSthatcomplieswiththerulessetoutbytheirclassificationsociety.InthefouryearssinceDNVGLlastgrantedtypeapprovalforMaximo,boththeassetmanagementsoftwareandtheclassificationsociety’sownrequirementshavechanged.Ourteamspenteightweekshighlightingnewfunctionality,gatheringdocumentationtosupportnewtechnicalrequirements,andprovidingdemonstrationstoDNVGL’saccreditedsurveyor.”   AswellasbeingaGoldAccreditedIBMBusinessPartner,SROistheonlypartnerwiththecapabilitytoprovideadatareplication(SDR)serviceoperatingintandemwithMaximo.SDRisspecificallydesignedtoworkinlocationswheretheinternetconnectionispoor,allowingbusinesseswithremoteandoffshoreassetstoshareasclosetolivedataaspossible.
