DepressionDuringaperiodofdepression,yoursymptomsmayinclude:feelingsad,hopelessorirritablemostofthetimelackingenergydifficultyconcentratingandrememberingthingslossofinterestineverydayactivitiesfeelingsofemptinessorworthlessnessfeelingsofguiltanddespairfeelingpessimisticabouteverythingself-doubtbeingdelusional,havinghallucinationsanddisturbedorillogicalthinkinglackofappetitedifficultysleepingwakingupearlysuicidalthoughts ManiaThemanicphaseofbipolardisordermayinclude:feelingveryhappy,elatedoroverjoyedtalkingveryquicklyfeelingfullofenergyfeelingself-importantfeelingfullofgreatnewideasandhavingimportantplansbeingeasilydistractedbeingeasilyirritatedoragitatedbeingdelusional,havinghallucinationsanddisturbedorillogicalthinkingnotfeelinglikesleepingnoteatingdoingthingsthatoftenhavedisastrousconsequences– suchasspendinglargesumsofmoneyonexpensiveandsometimesunaffordableitemsmakingdecisionsorsayingthingsthatareoutofcharacterandthatothersseeasbeingriskyorharmful PatternsofdepressionandmaniaIfyouhavebipolardisorder,youmayhaveepisodesofdepressionmoreregularlythanepisodesofmania,orviceversa.Betweenepisodesofdepressionandmania,youmaysometimeshaveperiodswhereyouhavea"normal"mood.Thepatternsarenotalwaysthesameandsomepeoplemayexperience:rapidcycling – whereapersonwithbipolardisorderrepeatedlyswingsfromahightoalowphasequicklywithouthavinga"normal"periodinbetweenmixedstate – whereapersonwithbipolardisorderexperiencessymptomsof depressionandmaniatogether;forexample,overactivitywithadepressedmoodIfyourmoodswingslastalongtimebutarenotsevereenoughtobeclassedasbipolardisorder,youmaybediagnosedwithamildformofbipolardisordercalledcyclothymia. LivingwithbipolardisorderBipolardisorderisaconditionofextremes. Apersonwithbipolardisordermaybeunawarethey'reinthemanicphase.Aftertheepisodeisover,theymaybeshockedattheirbehaviour.Butatthetime,theymaybelieveotherpeople arebeingnegativeorunhelpful.Somepeoplewithbipolardisorderhavemorefrequentandsevereepisodesthanothers.
