TwitchisskepticalofGod,andrecentlystartedbelievingthoughhecan'tunderstandhowGodwouldharmhissons,ashecouldneverallowharmtooneofhissevenchildren.[1][2] BillyKincaid ThereleaseofBillyKincaidcaughthisandhispartner'seye.TheyattendedthereleasesessionandfoundsuspicionwithwhatKincaidwassayingthattheyagreedtofollowhimuponhisreleasetoseeifhehadreallyhealedandwouldn'tkillanysmallchildrenagain.Whentheyweremonitoringhishouseatnight,theysawaredcapedfigureandmovedin.Uponinvestigating,theyfoundamurderseenandcalleditintothestation.UponreturningtotheNewYorkCityPoliceHeadquarters,theyfoundKincaid'sbodystrungupandviciouslymurderedwithabloodnotecourtesyofanunknownperson.Theyimmediatelysuspectedtheredcapewasinvolved.[2] DuetothebrutalKincaidmurder,TwitchandSamwereplacedonprobationwhileInternalAffairsresearchedtoseeiftheywereatfault.Theyspentseveralnightsworkingonpaperworkdiscussinghowthey'dfindoutwhotheredcapeisandhowthey'dfindhim.[3] Uponbeingreleased,theyintimidatedastreetbumintospyingontheBoweryAlleywaysforthem.Whenhefinallyreportedhiswhereabouts,theyfoundSpawnwasinahurrytohelpafriend.Followinghimtoanotherlocation,theyfoundOvertKillmercilesslybeatingSpawn.Usinghismarksmanabilities,TwitchshotabulletthroughOvertKill'searscramblinghismemories,andsavingSpawn.[4] BloodFeud Asuddenincreaseinnighttimekillingsinspiredextranormalhunter,JohnSanskertocometotowntoinvestigate.[5]TwitchandSamactedashispersonalpoliceescortswhilehewasintown.Twitchbeingthenaturaldetectiveheis,beganinvestigatinghisbackgroundandfoundJohnSanskerhasbeenaliveforhundredsofyears.TwitchwasbrutallyattackedbySanskerforfindingoutthetruthandplacedinthehospital. TwitchReturnstoWork Afterbeingvisitedbyhisbeautifulwife,HelenWilliams,andsevenchildreninthehospital,Twitchcan'twaittogetbacktowork.He'sexcitedtogetbackonthecasewithsearchingforSpawnandissurprisedhispartner,Sam,showeddevotiontohimandcontinuedtheChiefBanksinvestigation.[6] AsTerryandSpawnwakeup,theyrunawaytocompletetheirtasksofcheckinginonWandaleavingSamwonderingwhattodo. However,BankssoonfoundtoomuchpressurebuildingonhimandafteraconversationwithWynnonthephone,decidedtotakeactionsintohisownhands.SamandTwitchreceivedahottipthatBankswasheadedtoalleysafterSpawn.WhenBanksconfrontedSpawn,thetablesturnedandSpawnforcedBankstoadmitJasonWynnwasinvolvedinhisorderstokillthesenator'sdaughter.SamandTwitchrushedtothealleyandSpawnwasfurioustheydidn'tdeliverthefilestoBanks.[7] SamandTwitchturnedintheirpapersonBankstoInternalAffairs.AfterBankswasclearedofallcharges,SamandTwitchrealizedtheyaredealingwithacorruptsystemandwouldneedsomethingmoreconcretetobringBanksdown.[8] SamandTwitchheadedtoConnecticuttoperformadeep-diveintohowBankswasconnectedwithKincaidandwhoorderedthehit.Theyfoundcourierchargesanddecidedtofollowuponwherethesemessagewherebeingsentformandto.[9] Theydiscoveredthecouriermessageswerebeingsenttohigherupsinallthemajorofficesandimpliedmajorcorruptioninthesystem.TheyattemptedtotaketheinformationtoMr.Taylor,anewscorrespondenttoblowthetopoffofthecorruptionbyreleasingittothenews.Whentheinformationflewupthefoodchain,Wynngotaholdoftheinformation.HeletBankstakethefallandexpungedhisconnectionswithhim. Asthewallsclosedin,BanksfiredSamandTwitchforturninghiminearlier.WhenInternalAffairsshoweduptoarrestBanks,Bankstookhisownlife;endingSamandTwitch'scrusadeagainstBanks.[10] SamandTwitch:PrivateInvestigators TwitchWilliamsembraceshispartnerafterheagreestostartabusinesswithhim. Afterbeingfired,SamandTwitchdiscussedwhattheycoulddonext.Theyagreethattheycouldn'tletBankslegacygoassomehigherupsthatwereinvolvedhadtheirchargesdroppedassoonastheBanksinvestigationclosed.SamproposedtheystartaPrivateInvestigatorsbusinessandusedthelastofhismoneytostartthebusinesswithTwitch.Twitch,worriedthathecouldn'ttellhiswifethathelosthisjob,agreesandhugshisfriendfortheopportunity.[11] Samprocuredanoverpricedandill-placedapartmenttostarttheirbusiness.[12]Hefurthershowedhismissuseofmoneybypurchasingforthemthe"Crimemobile",aflash'55Chevyforrespondingtocalls.[13] TheysuddenlystartedreceivingunmarkedmessagesfromanunknowninformantaboutBanks'politicalcorruption.Aftercheckingouttheinformation,itseemedtobeaccurateandreliable.[14] TheDueheadedtoRatCitytospeakwithSpawn.CogliostrogreetedthemandtoldthemtheirfateswereinextricablylinkedwithSpawn'ssincetheKincaidincident.[15].HetoldthemSpawnseesthemashismessengersandtheyseekhimoutastheirmaster.[16] CurseoftheSpawn-Suture SamandTwitchhadoneoftheirclientsmurderedbytheserialkillerdubbed,'therosekiller'.AftergivingDetectiveEdlandthebareinformationnecessary,theyweredismissedanddisgracedfornothelpingoutex-shieldmembers.[17] SamandTwitchweresoonhiredbyWayneTannangertoinvestigateamissingpersonscasewithhisfiance,GretchenCulver.WhenSamandTwitcharestonewalledinreturnbythepolicewhentheyaskaboutthemissingpersons,onemember,RaySparks,givesthemaleadonaJaneDoecaraccident.[18] Aftervisitingthemorgueanddiscoveringprotocolwasviolated,theydecidetohaveGretchen'sgraveexhumed.Whennobodyispresent,theyrealizecorruptionrunsrampantinthe29thprecinct.Theyheadtorookiecop,KennyOsbourne'sapartmentandbreakin.Theyfindrapecaseandbiblescripturesstapledtogether.WhenKennypullsagunonthemafterreturninghomeandmisfires,SamandTwitchsubduehimandinterrogatehimformoreinformation.[19] AfterhearingKennyconfesstotherapeandmurderofGretchen,theydecidetowalkhimtoapolicestationtogetastatement.However,onthewalkover,DougHallidaydrivesanunmarkedsedanandperformsadrive-byshootingkillingOsbourneandTannanger.SamandTwitchheadtothepoliceofficeandaccuseHalliday.However,asupervillainnamedSuturebreaksinandchasesdownHallidayandmurdershim.SamandTwitchdiscoverSuturewasactuallyGretchenCulverobtainingrevenge.Aftershedisappearedintothenight,thepolicehadnostatementstoblamethepoliceandSamandTwitchreturnedtotheirPIwork.[20] GettingClosetoSpawn StillindismayaboutCog'swarningthattheirfatesarelinked,SamandTwitchdiscusshowtheycouldpotentiallytrapSpawnandgetinformationoutofhim.[21]TheysoondiscovertheDeadZoneandfindSpawn'sbodycrucifiedagainstthewall.Theydecidetotryandbringhisbodyinbutstruggletobudgehisnear400poundbody.TheyaresuddenlyapproachedbyBobbyandhisgangofhomelessmen.TheymistakenlythinkSamandTwitchkilledSpawnandenterastandoff.Duringthedistraction,TheFreaksneakedinbehindTwitchandheldhimbythethroatwithhisknife.However,SpawnsuddenlyresurrectedhisownbodyasSamandTwitchhadjustbarelypulledhimoutoftheDeadZonewherehehadnopowers.[22]SpawnsavedSamandTwitchfromthebrawlthatsoonensuedbetweenalltheparties.[23] SamtoldTwitchtheyneededtorelaxastheyheadedtoastripclub.Inside,theyfoundafightamongseveralindividuals.Aftergivingchasetoamanattemptingtokidnapastripper,theylosttrackofthemysteriousmanwhodisappearedintothenight.[24]SamandTwitchheadedbacktoheadquarterstotypeupthereport.However,amanwasdraggedinwhodemandedtoseethem.HeinformedthemthattheyneededtoprotecttheHellspawnandinreturnhewouldprotectthem.SamandTwitchbeganslowlybelievingCogliostro'swarningsthattheymaybeSpawnsacolytes.[25] Laterthatday,theyarrivedattheirofficeandfoundCogliostrowaitingforthem.HegavethemafileinformingthemofCol.AlbertSimmonsbackgroundandtoldthemheurgentlyneededtheirhelp.[26]TheybeganlookingoverthefilesanddiscoverednotonlydidTwistelli,Wynn,andKincaidallhaveSpawnincommon-theyalsoallhadSamandTwitchinvolvementaswell.[27] Later,SamandTwitchheadedtothealleystofindSpawn,theirpurportedsavior.However,theyfoundthemselvesundergunfirefromaseeminglyrandomstranger.WhenTwitchwasshot,Samrushedhimtothehospital.[28]DoctorssoonpredictedTwitchwouldnotmakeitthroughthenight.Samlamentedinthehallwaythathewoulddoanythingtosavehisfriend.Spawnappearedandusedhismagictosavehislife.Hetoldthemtheynowarehisacolytesandshalldohisbidding.Samsuddenlyisstruckwiththegravityofthesituationtheyareputin.[29] Followinguponleads,Samsoondiscoveredtheshootingwasn'tasrandomastheythought.SeveralhomelessmurdersledSamtodiscovermarksonthekillersnecks.HebeganinvestigatinganddiscoveredthatBillyKincaidhadreturnedandwastargetingthemforbeingclosetoSpawn.[30]TheysatinKeystoneTavern,awell-knowncopbar,whenOfficerRaffertywalkedbyanddroppedanoteoffonthedesk.ItrevealedthatBillwaspossessingRaffertyandheplannedonkillingSpawnandthoseclosetohim.[31]SamandTwitchrushedtowarnWandaandTerryFitzgeraldofthenewswhentheyreceivedadistresscall.TheyhurriedtoRatCitywhereSpawnandBillyKincaidwerelockedintheDeadZonebyallthehomelessinanefforttokillBillyandnothavehisspiritfreetoinhabitothersduetotheDeadZonebeingconnectedwithHeaven.SamwasshockedwhenTwitchcouldn'twaittoseewhatwouldhappenandinsteadusedhispistoltoputabulletbetweenRafferty'shead,endingBilly'sreignofterror.[32] SamandTwitch:Udaku SamandTwitchweresuddenlyofferedtheiroldpositionsbackontheNewYorkCityPoliceDepartment.TheyacceptedandsoonfoundtheirfirstcaseinvolvingthemurderofLieutenantBarnes.Atthemurderscenetheymysteriouslyfoundfourleftthumbs.[33]Themedicalexaminer,K.C.McRory,informedthemthatthethumbswereallfromthesamebody.Theduosoonfoundmoremurderscenes.Eachinvolvingfourseveredbodypartsofearsandthengenitalia. Samshakesdownfellowofficer,RogerAfflek,forinformationandistoldtoinvestigateaparticularstreetcorner.Atthesametime,TwitchreturnswithinformationonaseriesofstrangearrestsinvolvingtheSangiacomocrimefamily.Uponarrivingatthescene,theyfindamysterioustrenchcoattedmanfleeinganewlycreatedmurderscene.Asthemanflees,Twitchtakesashotandthemandisappearsinapuffofsmoke.[34] SampushesTwitchtostopspendingsomuchtimeonthecaseanddiscoveredthathiswifelefthimforspendingtoomuchtimeattheoffice.RogerAffleksuddenlyburstedintotheroomanddiesduetobeingmurderedbyatrenchcoatmanpoison.Hemutterstheword,"Udaku"inthisfinalbreath.[35] Later,SamheadstoseeRoger'swife,DeeAfflektoseeifshehadanyinformationwhat"Udaku"means.SheinitiallyclaimsignorancebutlaterreturnstohimwithajournaldetailingalockerinGrandCentralStationthatwouldtellthemeverythingtheyneededtoknowaboutUdaku.[36] Uponcheckingoutthelocker,thefoundthemselvescaughtinthecrossfirebetweentheFederalBureauofInvestigationandtheSangiacomocrimefamily.TheSangiacomostakeoneoftheofficerswiththemasheheldviableinfomationonUdaku.[37] Backatthestation,BarbaraRodriguezextractsinformationoutofanotherdirtycop.HetellsthemtheUdakuareacrimesyndicatefromSouthAfrica.ThebuildingissuddenlyattackedandSamandTwitchchasetheUdakuleader,CeciliaUdaku.Afterbeingtrapped,CeciliatellsthemthattheUdakuwillneverstopuntiltheytakecontroloforganizedcrimeinNewYorkCity.TwitchsurprisinglyfeignsbeingattackedandmurdersCeciliawhenshethreatenedthesafetyofhisfamily.[38] SamandTwitch:WitchkillerCase Asaresultofhissuccess,SamauthoredanUdakubook.Hebecomeacelebrityandappearedonlocaltelevisiontopromotehisbook.Twitchdeclinedbeinginvolvedandinsteadchosetospendtimewithhisnewgirlfriend,K.C.[39].Hisbreakwassooncutshortaspolicechief,MonicaStraight,toldtheNYPDtolookuptoSamandTwitchwhenanewstringofmurdersbeganpoppingup.Someonewaskillingwitchesacrossthecityandmountingtheirheadsonstakes.Duringtheinvestigation,K.C.McRoryfoundsaltontheirbodieswhileSaminvestigatedBernadette,apolicewiccan.Theydiscoveredwitcheswerepeacefulandcelebratingthevernalequinox.Theycanvassedthedeadwitchesfriendsandturnedupnoinformation.[40] Atthemorgue,K.C.isshockedthatthebodywastheMayor'sniece,NiaBates.Shetoldthemshethoughtitswasoneguybehindallthemurders.Shefoundsignsofstruggleinallofthem,andawhiteman'sskinundertheirnails.Shealsotoldthemthesaltwasthetypeusedtomeltsnow.Sinceitwassummer,itmightbeworthlookingintowhereitwaspurchased.Samwonderedifitcouldhavebeenaninsidejob.Twitchthoughtthekillerwantedtogetcaught.Hisattackswereinpublicandthebodiesaremountedinpublicforalltosee.[41] Later,theduomeetwithNadjaagainwhobroughtinawarlockinformant.Hetoldthemhehungoutinwitchchatrooms.TheyhadbeenharassedbyascreennameCorwin.Hethreatenedthewitchesandhadaviolentnaturewhichwasn'twhatmostwitchesweretaught.[41] ThepolicecheckouttheinformationandtrackittoamannamedA.J.Ritter'sapartment.Whentheyarrive,heattemptstotakeoff.Thecornerhimandorderhimtodrophisgun.Theyarresthimandbringhimtothepolicestationforquestioning.[41]TheydiscoverRitterhadlosthisjob,Wifelefthimsixweeksago.Theythinkhesnappedandbecamedelusional. Ritterbelievedhehadbeencursedbywitchesandwantedtokillasmanyashecouldbeforehistimecame.HetoldSamandTwitchhehadstudiedthebookMaleficentMaleficarum,abookusedbywitchhunterstotrackandkillasmanyashecouldbeforehistime.Laterthatnight,Ritterdiedinhiscellandsaltwasfoundonhisbody.SamapproachedNadjaandaskediftheyhadmurderedhim.Theyclaimedtheylitacandletocausemisfortuneonhim.Samleavesthinkingitismadeup.[42] SamandTwitch:BountyWars Later,BilalChristian,aruthlessbountyhunter,washuntingaperpetratornearK.C.'sapartment.Whenhefiredatthefleeingcriminal,hisbulletricochetedthroughabuildingandstruckK.C.inthechest.Twitchheldherandrushedhertothehospital. TwitchandSamheadedtothelocationwherebountyhuntersgottheirmissions,andtheymetJinxAlameda,afellowbountyhunterwhohadagrudgeagainstBilar.Jinxagreedtohelphunthimdowntogetbackathimforhimstealingoneofherbounties.[43]Theduoagreedtotakeherundertheirwingaslongassheproveduseful.[44] TheysoonreceivedaleadonBilal'slocationfromManara.[43]Whentheyarrivedatthebailbondsmanlocation,gunshotswerefired.SamreceivedacallandlearnedtheK.C.hadofficiallypassedawayfromherwounds.WhentheybrokethenewstoTwitch,TwitchspottedManaraandPrattinthedistanceandarrestedthemforputtingthemindangerbytippingoffMunozaboutthemcomingtogetBilar.[45] Atthepolicestation,theyinterrogatedPrattandManara.TheysuddenlyreceivedacallfromBilalandwhileonthephonewithhim,severalbountyhuntersbrokeintotheroom.TwitchheardgunfireonthephoneandtheyputoutanAPBforthegunshots.Theyreceivedatiponhislocationandheadedout. TheyarrivedatthelocationandJinxcorneredhim.InthetensesituationwithJinxandBilalpointingtheirgunsateachother,TwitchtooktheshotandkilledBilaldenyingJinxofherrevenge.SamwonderedifhewasbeginningtolosehiscoolasanofficerandTwitchvoluntarilyhandedinhisbadge.[46] SamandTwitch:JohnDoeKiller Later,Aftertimeoff,TwitchtellsSamherejustneededafewdaysawayfromworktothinkthingsthroughafterthelossofhisshirttimeromancewithKCMcRory.Samsoonfoundatapeaddressedtohimwhichshowedamaninblackskimaskmurderingseveralpeople.HehadtheAVdepartmentverifythatthetapewasreal.[47]Whenhisplacehadanenvelopedeliveredwithanothertapemurder,hisplacewasinvestigated.InstantlyhigherupscalledandSambelievedtherewasaleakbasedonthespeedthatthehigherupsgotinvolved.Afewclothfiberswerefound.[48] SamandTwitchwereforcedtostartworkingwithFBIwhenitwasdiscoveredthiswasn'tthefirstinstanceofthismurderer.[49]Theywerealsosoonsaddledwitharookiecop,KirkMcGuire,whohadscrewedupandwasreassignedtothem. SoonSamandTwitchwereapproachedbytheFBIwithevidenceagainstMcGuirebeinginvolvedintheJohnDoeKillercase.SambecameupsetwithMcGuireandtheyagreedtosplitup.TwitchtookMcGuiretopolicechiefMonicaStraighttofigureoutthenextstepsandSaminvestigatedfurtherwithFBI.[50] TwitchvisitedtheBeestonhousehold,themanwhohadtestifiedhereceivedanorderfromMcGuireforblackskimasks.TwitchlearnedBeestonhadbeenmissingseveraldays.HewarnedMcGuiretheonlychancehehadtobeexoneratedheadjustgonemissing.Uponreturninghome,missedaphonecallfromhisson.HewasinvitedtodinnerdatewithfamilyatHelenWilliams'srecommendation.ThiswasahugerelieftoTwitchwhojustwantedtoconnectwithlovedonesagain.[50] TwitchthensneakedintotheFBIofficetostealevidenceonJohnDoeKillerfiles.HebroughtittoSam'storeviewwithhim.[50]Inaddition,McGuirepulledstringsfromhisdadtogetcasefilesontheKiller.HegavethemtoTwitchandaskedhimtohelpsolvehiscase.TwitchthenlearnedtheKilleralwayspickedlonerswhichiswhySamwaschosen.[51] SamandTwitchcontinuedtoreviewtheFBIinfo.Twitchnoticedevidencediscrepanciesintheirpastcases.WhenStraightdoesn'thelpthem,theyaskJimmyMurphytohackforillegalinformationontheFBIagents.TheyfoundcorrelationsofDaveHuntbeingonkillingsbutnothingconclusive.SamcalledJimUngerwithanambiguousmessageaboutheadingtoadowntownlocation.[52] LaterinNewJersey,theycheckthelocationwhereDaveHuntfrequentlycalled.Whentheyspottedthekiller,Samheadedbacktothecartocallforbackup.TwitchheardagunshotandcalledKirkMcGuiretorushovertoassist. TwitchchasedtheKillerintothehouse.Heburstintoaroomwhereallofthevictimsareholdinggunsandhaveblackskimaskson.TwitchreactsfirstandsinglesouttheKillerandshothim. Havingsolvedthecase,TwitchcalledTracyCane,Sam'sshort-termgirlfriend.ShetoldhimshewasmovingbacktoOhio.SheaskedhimtotakecareofSamashewasallhehad.Twitchrealizedthiswasthesamewayhiswifemusthavefeltandthereasonshehadlefthim.Twitchheadedtohiswife'shouseandbeggedhertotakehimback.Sheagreedandhiskidsareexcitedtoseehimfinallycomehome.[53] TheKingdom SamandTwitchwereatthePoliceHeadquarterswhentheywereinterruptedbyanoiseoutside.Theydiscoveredseveraldeadbodiesstrungupsidedownacrossfromtheprecinctentryway,leftasamessagefromtheKingdom.
