UnderNCLBschoolswererequiredtohave,atleast,95%ofeligiblestudentsparticipateinstandardizedtestsorriskpunishment.ESSA,ontheotherhand,nowgivesthepowertothestatestodeterminehowmuchweightisgiventoaschool’sparticipationinassessmenttesting.
