Thenewchapterwaslaunchedwiththreenewnotations(D-INF,DDV,REW)on28OctoberandwillenterintoforceonJanuary1st2021.Inaddition,anewSmartvesselnotation(Smart)–aframeworkforassessingandvisualisingdigitalvesselfeatures–wasintroduced. Vessels,theirsystemsandcomponentsarenowincreasinglylinkedtotheinternet,makingthemaccessiblefromanywhereandpartofanetworkofonlinemaritimeassets.Thisisgivingtheindustryaccesstoreal-timedata,enablingincreasedautomation,decisionsupport,remotemonitoring,andoverallbooststosafetyandperformance.Atthesametimethisdata–collectedincloudstorageandusedasthebasisfordigitaltwinsandotheroperational,designandconstructionsimulations–ishavingadramaticeffectonthewaytheindustrylooksatinformation,whileopeningupnewbusinessmodelsandrisks. “Thepandemichastriggeredarenaissanceinthemaritimeindustry,asweseegreateranddeeperadoptionofdigitalsolutionstoenhancesafety,sustainabilityandefficiency,”saidKnutØrbeck-Nilssen,CEOofDNVGL–Maritime.“Thekeytomaximisingthepotentialofthesedigitaltechnologiesandstrategiesistoenablecompaniestomoreeasilybuildtrustinthem.WiththenewDigitalFeatureschapter,wehavelaidaclearclassfoundationforthreeofthemostessentialbuildingblocksofmaritimedigitalisation.” TheDigitalFeatureschapter(Pt.6Ch.11)issupportedbytwonewDNVGLclassguidelinesandsetsoutthebasicfeaturesofasmartvesselandhownewdigitalsolutionscanbeimplementedtounlocknewefficienciesandopportunities.Thethreeinitialnotationstobeofferedare:Datacollectioninfrastructure–“D-INF”;Data-drivenverification–“DDV”;andRemotewitnessingpreparedness/networkandconnectivity–“REW”. Theclassnotation“D-INF”–Datacollectioninfrastructureandvesselconnectivitysetsouttherequirementsforthecompletedatacollectioninfrastructure,includinganonboarddataserver,adatarelaycomponentandremotedataserver,aswellastheconnectiontoshore.Thisappliestoonboardequipmentdeliveredbyboththeyardandtheownerwhenappliedforclasspurposes. Data-drivenverificationprinciplesforremotesurveys–“DDV”,setstherequirementsforthegathering,treatmentanddeliveryofcollecteddatatoensurethequalityofthisdataforuseinaclassassessment.Thismeansthatforthespecifiedsystems,theverifieddatacanbeusedinthecertificationandclassificationofthosesystemsinmaritimeandoffshorevessels.Thenotationcoversseveraldifferentverificationmethods,includingself-verifyingsystemsanddigitaltwins. Remotewitnessingpreparednessonnetworkandconnectivity–“REW”,providestherequirementsforsystemsandsolutionsusedinremotewitnessing.Toenableremoteinteractionwithtechnicalexpertsthenotationoutlinestheonboardarrangementsforlivestreamingthroughoutthevessel.Twoqualifiersindicatefunctionalityforrealtimewitnessing,remotetestfunctionsandsharingofsystemdisplayinformation(HMI),withorwithoutremotecontrolofthesystemenabled.
