中藥材的命名依循古人雅興，詞藻華麗、形容生動，卻也常常讓人搞不清這個藥材到底是什麼。

左盤龍：鴿子的糞便 因為糞便形狀向左旋轉而得名，可以生津、消腫。

龍涎香：抹香鯨的分泌物 難以消化的食物積累而成，是名貴的香料與藥品。

望月砂：野兔的糞便 因嫦娥望月中的玉兔而得名，具明目解讀之功效。

白丁香：麻雀的糞便 較容易取得，可用來治療疝氣、目翳等疾病。

白馬通：馬的糞便 研磨成汁服用，可用來止血、止痛，也可用作外敷。

雞矢白：雞的糞便 只取上面白白一層使用，可治鼓脹、黃疸等症狀。

五靈脂：復齒鼯鼠的糞便 「如凝脂而受五行之氣也」，具舒筋活血、止痛之效。

夜明砂：蝙蝠的糞便 因具有治療夜盲的功效而得名，孕婦不得食用。

蠶砂：蠶的糞便 可口服治療頭痛，腹瀉，也可炒熱裝袋後放在患部。

金汁：男童的糞便 將糞便處理後埋入土裡二至三十年，可清熱解毒。
