FederalReserveofficialsmaintainedtheirhawkishviewandwerecommittedtogettinginflationbacktoits2%target,minutesfromtheJuly26-27meetingshowed.Participantsatthesessionsaidthatforthecentralbanktoscalebackitsratehikes,inflationreportsduetobereleasedbeforethenextmeetingwouldneedtoconfirmthatthepaceofpricegrowthwascooling.Policymakershave,however,constantlyavoidedputtingexactnumbersonthesizeofthenextratehikeinSeptember.Theminutesalsonotedthatasthestanceofmonetarypolicytightensfurther,atsomepoint,itwouldlikelybecomeappropriatetoslowthepaceofpolicyrateincreasesandgaugetheeffectsofsuchtighteningongrowthandinflation.TheFedhaslifteditsbenchmarkovernightinterestrateby225pointsthisyeartoatargetrangeof2.25%to2.50%.
