First,itisimportanttodistinguishbetweentheframerateofthecameraandtheabilityofthehostcomputertokeepupwiththetaskofdisplayingimagesorstreamingtothediskwithoutdroppingframes.Theframerateofthecameraisafunctionofexposureandreadout(e.g.clock,ROI)parameters.Basedontheacquisitionparameterschosenbytheuser,thecameratimingemulatesadigitalcounterthatwillgenerateacertainnumberofframespersecond.Whendisplayingimages,thisdataishandledbythegraphicssystemofthecomputer;whensavingimagesandmovies,thisdataisstreamedtodisk.Iftheharddriveisnotfastenough,thiswillresultindroppedframes. Onesolutiontothisproblemistoensurethatasolidstatedrive(SSD)isused.ThisusuallyresolvestheissueiftheotherspecificationsofthePCaresufficient.NotethatthewritespeedoftheSSDmustbesufficienttohandlethedatathroughput.
